All dressed up for all the balls

Ashbury Pulls Them In.

Ashbury College’s 007-themed Board of Governors’ Ball didn’t call for costumes, but the men could have passed for James Bond, they looked so darn dashing in their tuxes.

A sold-out crowd of 325 enjoyed an elegant evening Saturday inside the school’s Maclaren Hall, which was all jazzed up with decorations. The seventh annual ball included a silent auction, with more than two dozen internships and career experiences for senior students and alumni. Choices included lunching with U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins, shadowing House of Commons Speaker Peter Milliken and joining Cognos president/CEO Rob Ashe on an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to open the Nasdaq stock exchange.

The auction with Lawrence Greenspon involved several embassy dinners, including one for 10 guests with Chinese Ambassador Lu Shumin.

In attendance were presenting sponsor Marilyn Wilson of Royal LePage and Ashbury alumnus Jeff Mierins of sponsor Star Motors with his wife, Arlie. On hand were the ball’s co-chairwomen, Lori Chadnick and Karen Achtemichuk, headmaster Tam Matthews, and chairman of the board, John Kelly. The money raised provides bursaries and scholarships for students to attend the private school.
